Dining Room conversion with sliding doors for a Home Office

We finally wrapped up the dining room conversion to a home office. We had 4 dining areas in our home but were lacking a guest bedroom. I knew from the first day that we toured this house that the dining room should be converted into a home office.

It took almost a year to find a woodworker that could work with the current headers and very limited corner walls that were already in place. I didn't want to build out the walls.  I only wanted to add floor-to-ceiling doors with glass.

This was what the home looked like when we first toured in August of 2019 (this picture is from the listing.

In the interim, we moved in our old dining room furniture and used the space as more of a game room for playing Mexican train dominoes and building puzzles.

Do you have questions about these changes?  If so, leave them in the comments below and I will update the post to answer them.

  1. Hi Robin!

I’m wondering how you ended up searching for a good contractor to install those unique doors for your office? Also do you mind if I ask where you purchased them? I want to do the same thing to my dining area! I want to avoid building out the walls as well. Your office looks amazing by the way!

    1. Hi Jess,
I got lucky and found a local woodworker to custom build these doors.

  3. In your original photo of the space, there were two open sides. Did you sheetrock one side and use the custom doors for the other opening? I currently have a dining room with 2 open sides and am trying to figure out how to enclose it for a home office but still let light flow through.

    1. We actually added sets of doors to both openings. You can see the second set facing into the living room with the white armchair. I have some videos posted at https://instagram.com/robinwarz.interiors too.

  5. Hi, the transformation looks amazing. I am looking to install sliding doors for my flex room. Would you be willing to share the cost for your sliding doors?

  6. Hi Robin- all of us so curious about the doors! I’m woNdering about your sliding door hardware. Everything I see online has bad reviews and the barndoor style is too rustic for my taste. Thank you!
