Dining Room conversion with sliding doors for a Home Office

Wednesday, May 26, 2021

We finally wrapped up the dining room conversion to a home office. We had 4 dining areas in our home but were lacking a guest bedroom. I knew from the first day that we toured this house that the dining room should be converted into a home office.

It took almost a year to find a woodworker that could work with the current headers and very limited corner walls that were already in place. I didn't want to build out the walls.  I only wanted to add floor-to-ceiling doors with glass.

This was what the home looked like when we first toured in August of 2019 (this picture is from the listing.

In the interim, we moved in our old dining room furniture and used the space as more of a game room for playing Mexican train dominoes and building puzzles.

Do you have questions about these changes?  If so, leave them in the comments below and I will update the post to answer them.

New Home Office

Exciting things are happening around here!  The dining room is now officially Nick's office.

This is the current plan for the space. You may recall that we already own this bamboo chandelier, desk, framed photo and blue leather desk chair.

We are adding these Ikat Bethesda Curtain Panels from Ballard Designs as well as the Safavieh Ebo Modern Coastal Etagere in Navy

I have not finalized the rug decision yet, but it's leaning toward a faux sisal or jute outdoor rug in either natural or blue.

You can check out the previous plans for this room here. Nick decided he loved his current chair and so we are keeping it.

We were never completely sold on the idea of barn doors, even if they had contemporary hardware. So when we came across a local contractor that could custom build us 10' tall doors, we knew that was the way to go. You can follow along in my Instagram Stories on the install progress.

This was taken after the first two out 8 doors were installed.

Now all of the doors are in and the framing work is being completed. I ordered satin brass recessed handles and pulls and can't wait for them to be added. They will be the jewelry and bling these doors need.

Do you have a room in your home that isn't used to its full potential?
