Hey yall!  Are you ready for Fall yet?  I am beginning to dream about chilly football Sunday's eating chicken and dumplings. Just the thought of Fall has my decor brain wheels a turning!  I guess the hot weather clogs that part of my brain in the Summer.


Don't worry!  This blog post is not about Christmas.  I am not jumping ahead that far.  I just wanted to show the full teal accent wall with the buffet cabinet on the left and the desk on the right.  

 I struggle with how to decorate the left side outside of the Christmas season.

Above is a picture of the current mantel styling.



This is the current decor on the cabinet side, but it just does not do it for me.  I love the mirror, the tall white statue thingy (what do you call one of those?) and my Reader's Digest books.  Everything else can be swapped out. I had it decorated as a bar of sorts but now I have a bar cart.  Plus we don't even drink liquor.

 What would you suggest putting on top of the cabinets?

I know I have been MIA for a couple of months.  The truth is that I started a new position in my real life job.  Quite honestly my work schedule has been crazy and draining and has left little time for the blogging that I love.

This Summer hasn't been all work and no play though. We went to Wrightsville Beach in May.



My parents visited us twice in June since the Hubby had to travel for work.


My Dad has had some fairly serious health issues of late so we went home to see my parents this past weekend.  We went to see both my Mom & Dad's art show awards, played in the pool, spent time with Uncle Hugh and Yvette and went bowling.  It was a jam packed Saturday!  We all had a good time.



Nick's parents are coming this Friday so I am sure it will be another fun filled weekend!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mom's out there but especially to my Mom and my Mother-in-Law. I have been really under the weather, but thankfully I am starting to finally feel better.  We were pretty lazy this morning. Then I remembered that we had not put our new outdoor rug/mat in the screen porch so I got to work.

#2 Outdoor Mat from World Market

 A full reveal of the porch updates coming soon, but here is a sneak peek. This rug is a great deal!  I love the idea that we can just hose it off when it gets dirty and should not stain.  Plus it is surprisingly soft underfoot.


#3 Calendars as Wall Art

 I ordered the American Cities 2014 Calendar from Anderson for the Boy's TV room.  I framed and matted them over the weekend, but they still need to be hung.  Below are some awesome examples of other calendars framed as art.

My favorite porch perk up is palm trees. They brighten up a space and plants have been proven to make you happy.  At least that's what I read online :)  If nothing else, they will remind you of the beach and life is always better at the beach.  My second fave is pillows.

So I missed my Sunday ramblings...let's call it Monday ramblings.


#1 Spray Paint the Hardware too

Here's a tip from Emily A Clark: Paint the hardware too!  Sometimes it can cost a small fortune to buy all new hardware for a dresser or any piece of furniture with a lot of knobs and pulls.  Instead of buying all new hardware you just spray paint it the same color as the dresser.  Genius!

#2 Laundry Sorter

 Did you know my hubby is a born neat freak.  The exception to this rule is in our Master Closet which is probably the area that I try to keep the neatest in our house.  I just love the look of an elegant closet that makes you feel like you are in a retail store.  Laundry piles were a big issue on his side of the closet so I picked up an awesome laundry sorter from Walmart.  My favorite part, besides the $28 price, was that each bag pulls out.

#3 Better Homes & Gardens

While we are on the subject of Walmart, have you seen the new BHG stuff?!?  Some of it is fabulous!

#4 Outdoor Mat

 I scored this outdoor rug/mat from World Market.  It's usually $39.99 but they are having a 15% off outdoor items right now so it's only $33.00.  Did I mention that it is a 6' x 9' and it's reversible.  I love that is made of plastic fiber so it will be easy to hose off.
#5 Teal Door

If you have followed my blog for more than 5 minutes then you know I love teal, turquoise and aqua. I have been wanting to perk up our mud closet room and I think painting the door teal or turquoise is that way to add a pop.

I hope y'all had a good weekend!  We certainly did!  My weekend started off with a Friday Fun Day with coworkers at Frankie's Fun Park, then yard work on Saturday and a park play date this morning followed by having over friends for dinner tonight. Amongst all of that I finally took some photos of our bathroom now that the majority of the updates have been completed.

Here's a before shot where I was using painters tape to test out sizes of mirrors.

We still need new lights, but I still haven't found any that I love for under $150 each.  Our bathtub surround isn't pink!  That's just the reflection of my hot pink yoga pants.



It's amazing the difference that a little paint & new crown molding make.  And swapping out the builder towel hooks helped immensely too! All of the bathroom accessories including the towels, Capiz shell accessories (soap dispenser, cup & tray), q-tip holder, and orchid are from HomeGoods. The mirrors are from Kirkland's.

Here's a tip, store your bathtub necessities in a bamboo wine bottle holder to keep everything tidy. I also use a daily shower spray (which you can see hanging from the shower below) and a squeegee after every shower. 


Even though the bathroom isn't completely finished, it still makes me happy every time I am in there. That's what's important right?  Our homes should feel like us.  It's ok for some rooms or all rooms to be a work in progress.  I mean, if our whole house and yard was completely finished then I would be bored! Ha!  We would have to move.  I haven't read Melissa's book from The Inspired Room, "Love the Home You Have" but I feel like our mini-makeover was just enough to make me love our bathroom.

Hey ya'll!  I missed my Sunday Ramblings post yesterday, but I have a good excuse.  We celebrated Mason's 6th birthday on Saturday.  He had a blast with his best friends. Then on Sunday we went to the Brick Universe Lego Convention.



I have been working on adding some hints of spring to our home.  Come on in and check them out for yourself.


I don't go all out for Easter decorations, but I do like to add a hint of the holiday here and there.  The scalloped bowl on the foyer table is full of White House Easter eggs that Handsome Hubby collected throughout his childhood.

I love our wooden box filled with grass (Handsome Hubby built it from a pallette) and it is even cuter with some bunnies and Easter eggs.

Millon Dollar Model Upstairs

Yesterday I shared the first floor of the model home that I can't get out of my head.  The ceiling and details throughout were stunning.  When you go up stairs you walk into the Homework Landing.  




From there you head down the hall to the bonus room.  I love it! My only complaint is that it is right off the Master Bedroom which defeats the purpose for me since it is the kids hang out space.


It was complete with a wet bar, microwave and beverage cooler drawers.
