Red White and Blue Boys bedroom inspiration

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Hey guys!  It's really starting to feel like Fall around here which means it's time for football, Pumpkin Spice Lattes and jambalaya!

My oldest, who is 5, has asked me to decorate his room.  Clearly we watch a lot of HGTV around here.  I love a red, white and blue boys bedroom and that's how Nick's bedroom was decorated as a kid too so it has special meaning.

We already had a full size upholstered headboard for M's bed and just needed to recover it with different fabric.  We went on a quick field trip to the new Premier Fabric store in Raleigh and scored this navy link fabric.

Linked Blue White

Premier Prints had an awesome selection!  It was very tough to decide.

I had completed the design boards below too and used these to let the Mason & Lucas decide what they like best.  They love being involved in the process.  I have ordered vinyl wall decals for each of them too.

One headboard is done! One to go!  Then we need to build cornice boards.  I am sure we will head back to Premier Fabrics in Raleigh.

Hubby's Hub (Home Office) Part 2

Sunday, August 17, 2014

I hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend!  We certainly did.  The weather was gorgeous in Raleigh this weekend, perfect for afternoons at the pool and soccer practice.

We are one step closer to getting rid of the boring builder cream paint now that the office has been painted.  As I mentioned in my previous post, we used Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray.  Our goal was to create a masculine gray home office for my husband since that is where he works full time.  I think it has a hint of a Mad Men Feel with the mid-century pendant and chair.

For those of you with Toddlers and Elementary schoolers, I recommend Monopoly Junior.  Our boys love this game and it is loads of fun for the whole family.

Home Office Update

Oh what a difference a little bit of paint can make!  Well, maybe not a little bit of paint, more like a whole gallon. We chose Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray for my Hubby's home office.

DIY Velvet Tufted Storage Ottoman

Monday, August 11, 2014

Prior to moving into our new house, I kept seeing beautiful, tufted velvet ottomans that I thought would look amazing with our grey sectional.  I didn't love the price tag $500 and up. Plus, I wanted it to be teal, 36" diameter and have storage.

We wound up purchasing the Threshold Nolan Round Ottoman on clearance from Target.
We removed all of the faux leather from the bottom and wrapped in the perfect teal velvet fabric that I got from the remnant bin from Joann's for $9 a yard.  I bought all that they had which was over 3 yards, but we have a ton left over.  Handsome Hubs then pulled the table top wood off of the inside of the lid as we couldn't figure out how to upholster around it.  This caused the wood top to crack so we traced the cracked round onto plywood and created a whole new wood top. We were able to reuse all of the foam and batting. The total project cost was $206.  Way cheaper than the custom ottomans you can design at the furniture stores and it is exactly what we wanted and needed. Below is the final product. We completed this project in Handsome Hubby's Parent's NC B&B which is where we lived for 3 months while our house was being built.
